- The initial session outlines ethical considerations with an emphasis on understanding the Models of Ethical Behavior, Cultural Influences, Stages of Ethical Development and Influences of Ethics.
- The second session is a review of the BCIA and ISNR ethical consideration and Professional Standards and Ethical Principles.
- The third session reviews the 9 ethical principles, 6 Risky situations, 9 steps in ethical decision making and maintaining competency.
- The fourth and final session will be a Q & A session with case examples and specific questions from the attendees addressed. This session will be co-hosted by Robert Longo, MRC, LCMHC, BCN.
All four sessions must be attended to receive CE credit.
Who is the Audience/Level:
Geared for all licensed and/or certified providers of mental health services. Session 2 is specific to ISNR/BCIA professional guidelines however all sessions are pertinent to the practicing clinician.

Based on the content of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Evaluate a potential scenario for risk of ethical misconduct.
- Evaluate the steps to ethical decision making.
- Evaluate and determine the relevant stakeholders in an ethical dilemma.

Leslie Sherlin, PhD, is a licensed associate counselor and sport & performance psychology consultant to dozens of athletes, teams and individuals. Dr. Sherlin is the Associate Dean of Academics, Lead Faculty for the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Ottawa University, Surprise, Arizona. He is Senior Doctoral Adjunct Dissertation Chair and Faculty at Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona and Adjunct Research Faculty at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (2000), Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology (2003), and PhD in Psychology (2008). In 2013 he completed a PhD and post-doctoral fellowship in Sport & Performance Psychology. He completed a PhD in Clinical Pastoral Counseling (2017) and a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Expressive Arts Therapy (2019). Most recently he is engaging a Master of Arts in Photography (2021).
In addition to his academic positions, Dr. Sherlin is one of the world’s leading experts on the neuroscience of high performance. He is a leader in the research and use of neuroscience for improving human performance. He has led research partnerships with Red Bull North America’s High-Performance Center, USA Track & Field, US military Special Operations Forces, local and federal level law enforcement agencies and professional teams in multiple sports in many countries. He has collaborated in sport psychology with individual athletes ranging from the developing prospect to dozens of Olympic medalists and professional athletes across nearly every sport. He has published this work in the academic literature and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, BBC, Sports Illustrated, CNN, ESPN, CBS, Popular Science, Outdoor Magazine, Bicycling and more.
Dr. Sherlin continues to provide services in clinical counseling and sport and performance psychology consulting to individuals and teams through his private practice. He is licensed in the state of Arizona as a counselor. He is listed in the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry. He has been a Certified Mental Performance Consultant by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, certified by the International Board of Quantitative Electrophysiology, certified at the Diplomate level in quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) and is BCIA Board Certified both in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback. He is certified in equine assisted learning and therapy by the Equine Assisted Learning and Growth.
