Instructor:

Laura Childers, MA, LPC, BCN, QEEG-D, CCPS

Course description:  This presentation will look at the mirror neuron network and extended neuron network as a way to improve empathy in couples and families who struggle with trauma and addiction. Evidenced based information will be presented to understand how trauma and addiction can disconnect pathways that allow for empathy. Case studies will be presented from identifying markers that interfere with the ability to have empathy in the QEEG. Treatment modalities will be presented and pre and post measures will be discussed.

Who is the Audience:

Psychologists, Psychoanalysts, Psychiatrists, Social Workers, MFTs, Counselors, Substance Abuse Counselors

  • Identify parts of the mirror neuron network and extended mirror neuron network that allow for empathy.
  • Differentiate between the functions associated with the Mirror Neurons as well as the Extended Mirror Neuron Network
  • Analyze qEEG features that indicate dysregulations in the mirror neuron network and extended mirror neuron network.
  • Formulate theories indicating how the mirror neuron network can get dysregulated in trauma and addiction through a review of evidenced based studies.
  • Identify and discuss potential treatments that can improve  empathy in couples and families.

    Instructor:

Laura Childers is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. She is working to develop a Brain Based Assessment and Treatment Department at Daring Ventures. A large part of Laura’s practice is working with trauma and addiction. She works with kids, adolescents, college students, adults and the elderly clients. She also works with families. Laura uses the QEEG as the baseline for any treatment selection. She uses neurofeedback, neuromodulation, psychotherapy, as well as professional collaboration and teamwork to assess and treat clients. Laura is holistic in her approach. She considers the biochemical (body), brain, current environment and past history in her work.

Laura’s recent focus has turned toward creating a space for empathy and connection in couples who have lived through trauma and addiction by improving regulation of their nervous systems and brain networks.
